Chinese Onion Pepper Steak: A Culinary Journey

A savory and vibrant stir-fry dish combining thinly sliced flank steak with onions, bell peppers, and a rich sauce of soy and oyster sauce, flavored with garlic and ginger. It’s a perfect balance of protein, vegetables, and aromatic spices, served over a bed of rice.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 bell peppers, thinly sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
  • 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
  • Cooked rice, for serving

Instructions

  1. Mix soy sauce, oyster sauce, and cornstarch in a bowl. Add steak slices and marinate for 15-20 minutes.
  2. Heat oil in a skillet or wok, cook the steak until browned, then set aside.
  3. Stir-fry onions, bell peppers, garlic, and ginger in the same skillet.
  4. Return steak to the skillet, mix with vegetables, and heat through.
  5. Serve over rice, garnished with green onions.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, add chili flakes or sauce.
  • Substitute beef with chicken or tofu for a variation.
  • Ensure the skillet is hot for a perfect sear on the steak.
